I actually like Dave Matthews… My beef with Jack Johnson is that he doesn’t seem particularly good at his instrument and it all kinda sounds the same. But on the same hand I’m a huge Johnny Cash fan, so what do I know?

Well I wasn’t sure what “Ice Crew” was either. And this morning, while getting ready to go to Denis Sevards new restuarant in Muester Indiana for a job as a server/bartender I got a call. My son informed me about the dress code required and to look it up. Well here I am, I haven’t been to a Blackhawks game in awhile and never seen these girls or the outfits. I have to say they are cute but its 17 degrees ouside and I just can’t imagine. I am 50 and yes I could pull it off (I think I am in pretty good shape)but I really am having second thoughts.

  12. I started a response to this post, but 300 words into it, I figured I’d turn it into a post at my own blog: http://heardindc.wordpress.com/2010/01/08/some-actually-have-the-stones-to-defend-obamas-broken-c-span-promise/.

I’m not sure how Republican hypocrisy excuses, justifies — or even compels, as you seem to argue — Democratic hypocrisy, Joe.

    #200
  13. Joe B

Here’s the comment I left on Mr. “Heard in DC’s” blog.

I didn’t bother reading yours, because you evidentally didn’t bother reading mine.

I’m a “lefty” defending the broken promise? I made fun of BOTH Republicans and Democrats. Take the time to actually read these paragraphs where I shake my fist at both parties.

    (Start of quote)

Pelosi’s “Hah, campaign promises are for kids!” slap in the face of the Americans who supported said campaign promises truly showed that not much has changed. On the Republican side we have politics as usual as they use this “backing out on a promise” to metaphorically kick the President in the stones when they know that even if cameras were allowed in, nobody would actually watch. Think about it. How many people get home from work and turn on C-SPAN or even go to their website to check out the latest videos? No one. It’d be like if Republicans suddenly became outraged over a Mexican soap opera being canceled. They’ve only heard that they exist, but don’t actually care about it.

On the Democratic side we have politics as usual in that they publicly laughed at Obama’s campaign promise being broken. The look our Democratic leaders gave each other after the question was asked made it look like they thought the reporter was an idiot for asking.

“Hey! Get a load of this reporter asking me if cameras will be allowed in. What? It was a campaign promise? Bahahaha! You’re killing me! Stop it!”

    (End of quote)

That’s okay, though. You’re not the first conservative to pick and choose what you hear in order to support your own preconceived theories.

    #202
  14. Why should it matter that you “made fun of BOTH Democrats and Republicans”? What does that have to do with anything? If the point of my post was expressly to address arguments defending Obama’s decision not to air the remaining health-care discussions on C-SPAN, why would what you have to say about Democrats matter at all? If, in my post, I’d alleged that you were a blind partisan unwilling to criticize those in his own party, I could understand your response. But as it stands, I’m not sure where your problem lies.

As you’d see if you’d read my post, I wasn’t trying to get personal. I was merely addressing your arguments. I hope that respect comes through, though since you didn’t read my post, it might not have had a chance to.

    #209
  15. Joe B

I never argued that President Obama should be excused, which you say that I am. I simply said Republicans are pouncing on something that they never did (encourage C-SPAN to air everything they discussed behind closed doors) over a service that virtually no one uses. Just check out how many views their videos get on the C-SPAN website.

That aside, it kinda makes me sound like a blind partisan when you use arrogant terms with a negative connotation, such as “lefty.” Am I offended? No. I could care less, because as I said, you’re just another conservative blogger picking and choosing what you read to justify your own preconceived theories. That’s not to say the left doesn’t do it, too, but if you were more well known, you definitely could be the poster boy.

If you want to eradicate an artist from a Pandora station, you need to thumb-down two of their songs without having that artist in your station definition at all. that means that they cannot have any thumbed-up songs, or be a song or artist seed. You can always go to the station page and edit the songs that you have thumbed up. I had to give to boot to both Jack and DMB, not because I don’t like them, but because I want to hear artists and songs that I’ve never heard before.

Ah, yes… I gave ONE… ONE song a thumbs up more so because I felt bad saying I disliked everything (weird personality trait). Thanks for the tip. Although, I have to be honest… I probably won’t take the time, no matter how minimal, to do it.

Ah so true. We, the generation of lazy, are capable of so much! Making Jon Stewart a force to be reckoned with in national news. Electing the first black president (until he actually asks us to get off our butts and volunteer some of our precious time). Making “causes” cool again, by drinking from our eco-friendly water bottles and using recyclable bags… Unless of course it is inconvenient, or requires us to step away from facebook and gchat and take some initiative. (I count myself among the worst offenders…) Our (future) children will be so proud.

  23. I just read this story over on the Free Beer Movement site, very nice to hear about people who are willing to give the sport a shot. Also, good plan on sitting in the supporters’ section, the rest of the stadium is pretty boring during the games.

As someone who lived in Chicago-land for 4 years after graduating from the University of Wisconsin, I can attest to your point that people in that area think Chicago’s shit doesn’t stink. It’s quite annoying; I don’t mind some of the sports rivalries and banter, but some of the people that I met don’t know that anything outside of Chicago exists.

I digress…it’s cool that you’ve taken a liking to the beautiful game and are now encouraging others to give the Fire a shot.

  24. Joe B

    Thanks for the read, Nick.

Not only am I encouraging people to give the Fire a shot, but I’d like to see a team in my hometown of Cleveland. Perhaps we’d finally win at SOMETHING.

    Cheers!

I constantly see this creepy commercial late night and it actually makes me feel depressed with it’s bizarre imagery of The woman staring at the wind-up doll, the family in slow motion, and that terribly depressing piano music throughout. It always kills my head.

Fuck you dude. You keep talking shit about Alabama like you’re so much better than the people down here. Do you realize how much fucking technology is rooted here, especially in Huntsville?

Fuck you and all your kind. Just like you talk shit about how conservative and generally unwelcoming the state of Alabama is, you cast yourself into the same group of close-minded, unwelcoming people by broadcasting your own adherence to stereotypes.

    #425
  31. Joe B

I don’t know if I “keep talking shit about Alabama,” as this, I believe, is the only time I’ve mocked Alabama on this site. But I’m glad to hear that Alabama has plenty of “fucking technology” rooted there. Cleveland would surely benefit if we could get some fucking technology.

Your point that I cast myself into the same group of close-minded, unwelcoming people by making fun of Alabama is a fair point. However, I wasn’t making fun of Alabama based on stereotypes, I simply wrote out an experience I had with Alabama – the Ten Commandments memo story in my original post.

    Cheers!

Don’t let that one experience color your perception of an entire state and its people. I’ll be the first to admit we have some truly oddball, ultraconservative “let’s go play with snakes” people – but they are a minority.

I’ve not read any of your other posts, so I don’t know if you denigrate Alabama on a regular basis. But the way you incorporated the experience you had, and the tone in which you wrote it, really was offensive. You seemed to believe all of Alabama was “that way.”

    #473
  39. Joe B

We did run into more than a handful of those characters, leading me to believe that it’s not quite a minority. Perhaps it is statistically a minority in that it’s less than 50% of the state, but still seemed like a large minority.

That said, no this site is not dedicated to my one trip to Alabama and it certainly wasn’t meant to offend. Although, I suppose I wasn’t trying NOT to offend anyone either. I’m sure the state of Alabama has it’s gems as does any location in the world.

As an Ohioan, you learn not to take offense to out-of-state folk using your home as a punch line. Every state/city will be a punchline, so long as New York City, LA and Chicago exist.
