Never Too Early For Christmas Music

No, it’s never too early for Christmas music. Sure, playing it in May or August might seem a bit odd, but I don’t think it’s too early.

Christmas music is the happiest genre there is. Sorry, but I don’t feel like listening to slit-my-wrists music of the Emo genre (no offense, suicidal folks). I want to be happy! Christmas music never disappoints. Whether it’s of the religious variety or Alvin & the Chipmunks singing Jingle Bells, I love it. I love it all. Coincidentally, I prefer the religious songs despite the lack of religion in my own life, my favorite being Frank Sinatra’s version of Hark! The Herald Angel Sing, although the Peanuts gang has a damn good version, too.

I realize there are plenty of bah-humbugs out there who downright loathe Christmas to its very core. I can concede that Christmas, like all things on Earth, has its faults. We can’t seem to get through a Christmas season without hearing about some poor shopper being trampled to death by legions of Americans just waiting to throw wads of cash at the year’s most popular toy. It’s like that scene in The Lion King where Mufasa gets trampled, except… y’know… real and a million times more pathetic. But just as we shouldn’t let one bad egg represent a group of people, we shouldn’t let one tragic incident ruin the otherwise best time of the year!

Think of all the Christmas lights, the families coming together, the smiles on children’s faces! How can you NOT get excited?

Sure, I’m probably the guy that most loathe. In addition to my obnoxious Christmas music that I start blasting in early November, I get cornier with every second that Christmas day gets closer. I’m the guy who hops around with a smile on his face like Ewan McGregor in Moulin Rouge when he’s talking about love in the prelude to Elephant Song Medley (I don’t care if it makes me slightly gay, that movie and song RULE!), except with me you could substitute the word “love” with “Christmas,” like Billy Mack in Love Actually (movie references galore today!). In fact, let’s try it out!

Christmas is a many splendid thing,
Christmas lifts us up where we belong,
All you need is Christmas!

Oh, how that rings true to my very being.

Don’t be shy, everyone! Bust out your Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Burl Ives and Ray Charles Christmas albums. Try out some new stuff with the Barenaked Ladies’ and Sufjan Stevens’ Christmas album OR rock out with Tran-Siberian Orchestra for a Christmas album in a genre all in its own. Let the spirit of the season take you whole! (Told you I get obnoxiously corny) and dance around the Christmas tree without a care in the freaking world!
